How to become a Child of God
The very most important decision that anyone could ever make is to become a child of God. You were created by God and he wants to have an intimate personal relationship with you. He wants to be a part of your life because he loves you.
He loves you unconditionally, wholeheartedly, and without reserve. He actually already paid the debt that you owed him and all he wants is to be reconciled with you. Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection were the only acceptable payment that God required.
One of the most famous Bible verses is still true today:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in God should not perish but everlasting life.
John.3:16
You may have been a good person all your life, you’re honest, loving, mannerly, and maybe even selfless. Or you may do some of the worst things a person can ever do on this earth. God would still want you in either situation.
The reason that it doesn’t matter whether you’re moral or immoral is that we all have that sinful nature in us. We are all capable of doing the worst sin but only one thing can separate you from believers no matter what sin you commit and it’s when you reject the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for you.
This is why Jesus says,
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Roms.3:23
When Adam sinned every one of us was destined to die including the earth but because of what Jesus has done you have a chance to be redeemed. But God proved his love to us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He died for you.
Now that you know that you’re in need of a Savior you should:
- Admit you’re a sinner
- Believe in Jesus
- Confess your sins
Admit
“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John.1:9
You have to come to the realization that you are a sinner. You can’t forsake or repent from something that you won’t take responsibility for. Acknowledge that you are the enemy of God and you now want to be his friend.
Believe
“Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life no man come to the Father except through me.”
John.14:6
In order for you to become a Christian, you have to believe that Jesus is the son of God and the savior of the world. He is the Second Adam and he didn’t fail. There is no way that you can become a Christian by going directly to God. When God looks at you he will only see you righteous once you’ve accepted what his son Jesus has sacrificed for you.
Believe that Jesus is God’s son, that he died for you, and accept his free gift of salvation.
Confess
That if thou shalt confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
For with the heart man believe unto righteousness and with your mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans.10: 9, 10, 13
Only through faith can you confess your sin to God. Faith is believing in something even if you can’t see the outcome. Call on the name of Jesus with faith believing that he will save you.
Are you ready? Now is the time.
If after reading everything above you feel a gentle or fierce tugging at your heart to trust Jesus as your Savior then now is the right time to do so.
Then begin praying in Jesus’ name to God our Father with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Below is a sample prayer but allow the Holy Spirit to prompt your heart and speak to Jesus genuinely, he is waiting to hear from you:
Dear God,
I humbly bow before you today knowing that I am a sinner. I acknowledge that I am unworthy to be a Child of God but right now I want to change that. Jesus, thank you for dying on Calvary’s cross for me. Thank you for your free gift of salvation. I do believe that you died, were buried, and rose again to give me this opportunity and a chance at a new life. Right now I ask that you would forgive me for all my sins, past, present, and future. I renounce any authority over my life unless it’s you. Forgive me, cleanse me and make me one of yours. Accept my plea of guilt, remove the darkness, and replace it with your light. I will live for you for the rest of my life. Thank you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen!
Congratulations my new sister or brother in Christ. You have made the most important and best decision you’ll ever make in this life. May God bless you and welcome to the Family of God.
Now that you’re a child of God there are some things that you can do to start growing in your relationship with Jesus:
- Read your bible (Get a good bible that isn’t too hard to understand and begin reading God’s love letter to you. Start with the book of St.John. Examples: New King James Version, English Standard Version)
- Pray to God (Now that you’re in a relationship you need to communicate every single day)
- Tell everyone that is close to you. (family and friends)
- Find a bible teaching church so you can begin discipleship. Go regularly and become an active member.
- Get baptized (Show the world that you are serious about being a Christian)
Certainties that are yours as a believer:
- You can never lose your salvation (Once you belong to God you are his forever)
- You will go to heaven when you die
- Your sins are forgiven (All of them)
- God will never leave you or forsake you
- The Holy Spirit will be your comforter
- You are now adopted into the family of God
- Jesus will fight for you
- Your eternity has been settled once and for all
- And so much more
