Do you long to engage in sweet fellowship with your Savior? I do.
It’s summertime and my tropical location is hot! The beach is calling out to me and all I want to do is relax. Even though this is a great time for relaxation and for some, vacation; I’m not truly enjoying this time. My daughter isn’t with me and so my heart is heavy.
Every time I try to talk with her on the phone (thank God for technology) she totally ignores me. She hears my voice and she may look at me and offer a quick smile but her focus goes back to something else.
It really breaks my heart. I begin to think she doesn’t miss me and want to hop on the next plane out and bring her home.
My daughter is excited, she enjoys spending time with her extended family and she is at the stage where all she wants to do is play and walk. Despite her not wanting to interact with me through the phone, I know that she misses me.
As I pondered on these thoughts, I began to wonder how God feels whenever we stray away from him. God, our Father loves us unconditionally and he wants us to have a relationship with him but it can be so easy sometimes to find so many other demands that take up most of our time.
We say:
- I have to make breakfast for my family and get my kids to school on time.
- Oh my goodness, I woke up late so I have to rush out the door, I don’t have the time.
- Just one more episode of this series and I will have my devotions before I go to bed, but then you fall asleep.
Oh, how we put God on the back burner and all the while, God is there on the other side of the phone, waiting for us to come and have fellowship, waiting for us to talk and discuss his word.
Maybe this is where you are right now. Jesus is still the same place that you left him, waiting patiently on your return. Will you return to fellowship with the lover of your soul?
Earthly demands can be placed on the back burner, make time for the one that loves you most and can ensure that your day and other plans are successful.
Carve out time to spend with Jesus and watch the growth blossom in your Christian life.
Scripture
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
Rev.2:4
‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
Matt.15:8
