Psalms 34:17- “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.” God hears your cry for help.
Have you ever been in a place, time, or frame of mind where nothing seems to be going right?
Ever been caught in a predicament where you wondered whether this is it? Is it time for me to give up and or die?
You may not find yourself in such dire straits but there may have been situations in your life where you have encountered troubles beyond your ability to maneuver.
It could be that you are facing eviction, maybe your electricity is about to be cut or you may have lost your job. There are so many different scenarios that you could be facing that are just overwhelming. But it is not over. It’s far from over because you have God on your side.
You also have the power of prayer.
The author of our key verse, David, a man after God’s own heart faced situations that were overwhelming. Not only, did he face terrible tragedies and situations; he was also a man devoted to prayer.
He had full faith and confidence in who God was and where he stood with God. His heart was never too far from repentance and always steadfast on his creator.
David knew his shortcomings; even though he was a king, he was very aware of his finite humanness. When he wrote this psalm, he had been captured by Abimelech and in order to escape death, he acted like he was crazy.
David wrote this scripture for you and me today so that we can continue praying even when we feel like nothing is happening. Prayer is very, very important for you as a believer.
It is how you commune with the lover of your soul. It is how you get a hold of him because as David wrote, “the Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.”
God is listening, he hears all of your prayers and he will answer you. Sometimes the answer can be quick, and it can also take a very long time to receive a response. But I once heard a preacher say, “Waiting time is not wasting time.”Click To Tweet
God’s timing is best and he always comes through. After David tells us that God hears us, he lets us in on a promise.
The Lord rescues his people from ALL their troubles.
I can’t help but see so much packed information in that one little section. The first thing that stands out to be is the word rescue. When you rescue someone, it is always from a dangerous situation.
You can’t use the word rescue for something that is mild or easy to fix. It has to be a situation where there is no other way out. God will rescue you just like he rescued David from his imprisonment.
Nothing will happen to you that he didn’t allow and when he allows it; he will see you through.
Secondly, I noticed that David used the pronoun, “his” in front of people. God has claimed you as his own, you belong to him. Nothing will ever change that. He will rescue his people.
This can be two-fold because he has already rescued you from the slimy grasp of the enemy and hell and he will rescue you before this earth is destroyed. Once you are his, no man can pluck you out of His hands. You are secured and sealed until the day of redemption.
Thirdly, a little three-letter word is mentioned by David. It doesn’t matter how many troubles you face God will rescue you from all of them. If you have studied the life of David, you would know that even in his youth he faced challenges.
Before he had the confidence to kill Goliath, he faced a lion and bear and defeated them. God was with him then and even when he had to run from his own son, God took care of him.
Every problem that you are facing is no match for your God.
He will help you to overcome them all.
Lastly, the word, troubles stood out to me, not just because it was in its plural form- but because it shows that as daughters of God, we are not exempt from troubles. This world is filled with sorrow, pain, heartaches, and troubles. And we are not immune or untouchable because we belong to God.
David faced trouble after troubles, went from one situation to a next and God saw him through. Through it all he was a man of prayer and that my sister is the secret to him being known as a man after God’s own heart. He was able to cast his burdens on his Lord during the good and the bad times.
Today, God is listening because he wants to hear from you, you have the opportunity to pray and ask God to help you in any and every situation that you face. There is nothing too hard for him to handle. Just lay your burdens at the foot of the cross and let him know exactly what’s going on.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I humbly bow before your throne, thankful for this opportunity to come into your presence and make my requests known unto you. Now, I come before you with confidence like David whenever he prayed to you, knowing that you would answer. I offer my requests to you and I await your reply in patience. Thank you for rescuing me from all my troubles. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
