We are at the start of a new year and have so much to give God thanks for. Were you one of those who liked to pinky promise? If you’re unaware of what the term means: it is holding on to another person’s pinky finger with your own and making a promise to each other. Somehow, by using your pinky finger to make the promise it supposedly should never be broken.

But that’s not always the case, is it? We make promises almost every day or we have someone that makes a promise to us and most of the time they are broken.

Whether you refused to take your child to the movies after telling them you would or you broke your marriage vows, the promises that humans make are oftentimes broken.

But there is one who will never break his promise:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter.3:9

Our key verse today gives us hope. Without hope what is there to live for? God will keep every promise that he has made to us. His promises are numerous and still, he will keep them all.

Just because he is God.

God keeps all his promises

You’ve probably made resolutions for this new year even though I wrote a post about 5 reasons resolutions never work and you may very well have broken those promises you’ve made to yourself. ( Or maybe you’re still going strong, awesome.)

The only one we can truly rely on is God. The most important promise he has made to us is that he isn’t willing that anyone suffers.

I believe I know what you’re thinking… (Keneesha, Whoa, what are you talking about, have you seen the news lately?)

Yes, I have, I’m aware of the devastation, heartaches, and loss that takes place but God keeps granting us, and the entire world: time.

Here we are at the start of another decade and he still has given us time. He is longsuffering and patiently waiting for as many as would receive him to become children of his.

How about you sis? Are you doing your part with the time that you’ve been given? If there ever was a time that we should get busy with doing our part for Christ it is now.

God hates sin. When he looked down at Sodom and Gomorrah, he waited for them to repent and he even went to Lot and told him, he would spare the city if there were 5 believers present.

Despite the stench of sin then and the much smellier stench of sin in our world today, God is still not willing that any should perish. He is still longsuffering. He is still waiting. For one more, for one more.

Do you have any relatives that you need to witness to? How about friends, loved ones, co-workers? Time is running out and one day God’s patience will end. Hold on to God’s hand and do a pinky promise with him to reach someone with the good news this year.

As we continue in this new year, ask God to lay someone on your heart that you can minister to. With the old year behind and the new year ahead do better than you did last year and be a witness for Jesus.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for being God of very God. Your perfection displays my imperfections but I know that there is hope because you will never leave a promise unfulfilled. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to be a witness for you as you patiently wait for unbelievers to know you in Jesus’ name, Amen.
