One of the most loved Bible quotes used by believers from God’s word is the phrase, “But God”.

The word “but” is a special word that can be used as a conjunction, preposition, noun, and adverb. Most of the time when we see the phrase “But God” in scripture, there is a problem or seemingly impossible situation before it and a solution follows it.

One of my favorite phrases in Scripture is, “But God”.  At one time, I had it written all over the inside of my Bible cover because it reminded me that God is in control. It has always been a comfort to me because it doesn’t matter what I go through it’s not over until God steps in.

Hope in Jesus

This world is filled with suffering and so many unexpected mishaps that can befall us suddenly. However, there is hope because although we might be overwhelmed by all that happens, God has promised to be with us always. Disasters will arise, one after the other but there will always be light at the end of the tunnel with a “But God” solution.

The best verses that display God’s protection while using “but God” are usually conjunctions. They are used to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned.

Whenever you see this special phrase in scripture it means that God is ready to intervene in the situation. When you begin to despair and it looks like all is lost, that’s when the phrase, “but God” stirs our hearts and rescues the day.

As believers who are still living in this sinful world, it can be easy for us to lose hope when we lose a loved one or lose a job. But God has promised to be with us until the end of the age. We look at the storms or trials we are faced with and we forget that God has the final say.

Living here on earth will not spare us from the onslaught of the enemy but when Satan offers us defeat, remember that God already has the victory.

The Life of Joseph

Are you familiar with the life of Joseph?

He was chosen by God at a young age to be the salvation of his people. This was displayed in the many vivid dreams that he experienced as a child.

Not only was Joseph loved more by his father but he claimed to be the one to save his brethren when they would need it most and his brothers sold him into slavery.

Joseph experienced every hardship that one can face while being a slave and worked his way up the ranks. When he became second in command at Potiphar’s house it would seem that this was it. God had finally seen his plight and rewarded him for his faithfulness but it was short-lived.

He was tempted with sexual immorality and as a result of his obedience to God, he hit rock bottom again but this time as a prisoner.

Joseph arose out of the jail cell by the favor of God and became the salvation of his brethren and nation. There is one thing to note about him. He could have been bitter after everything he faced and refused to help his family but Joseph chose to do the opposite.

In one of the best descriptions of the phrase “But God” Joseph appreciated everything that he had been through and sought consolation from his trial.  He knew it eventually caused him to be in a position where he could help his family and the Israelites.

Joseph told his brothers that even though what they did was evil against him, God had turned it into good for all of them. His concern was not on what he went through to get to where he was but on the number of people he was able to save.

BUT GOD

Here are some “But God” verses that we can bank on:

Genesis.50:20 (KJV)- But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Ephesians.2: 4-6 (KJV)- But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Genesis. 31: 42 (NIV) – If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you.

1 Samuel.23:14- David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands.

Psalms.73:26- My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.

Acts.2:24 (NIV) –  But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Romans.5:8  –  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Galatians.4:7 (NIV)  –  So, you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
