With the many things you go through, how do you deal with storms?

Living in America’s paradise has its advantages. Firstly, there is summer all year round. I can go to the beach; I can wear warm clothing and I can enjoy the scenery of green grass and trees.

However, there is a time of the year that most Caribbean dwelling individuals dread and it is the Hurricane season. Other names that you are familiar with maybe cyclone, typhoon or tempestuous whirlwind. This disastrous season comes around every year from the beginning of June to the end of November.

Sometimes there are storms; other times there is none. Each time it comes it serves as a reminder that God is in control. In the year 2017, the island where I reside was hit with two massive Hurricanes that were measured in category 5. They were only about 2 weeks apart.

how do you deal with storms?

I was living in an apartment building that had 3 levels and I lived on the second level. The roof of the building came off and damaged my car and others that were in the lot. As a result, there was massive flooding which leaked down to the levels beneath.

I sat in the middle of my hallway and held my ears. The winds were so loud I thought I was going deaf. All I was able to do was pray to God because at that moment I was helpless and he wasn’t.

Have you ever gone through a storm?

Living on this earth we are guaranteed to experience storms both physical and personal. I’m reminded of the hurricane that stole some of Jesus’ rest. After a long day of sharing about His father and their ministry Jesus entered the boat with the disciples and decided to take a nap.

This wasn’t about to be just a short nap because he even had use of a pillow yet he went to sleep knowing exactly what would happen.

All of a sudden, a hurricane was upon; it was of such force that it rendered the disciples helpless. In the midst of Jesus’ disciples, there were some seasoned fishermen who had experienced many storms upon the sea.

However, this storm was different because they decided to wake Jesus.

how do you deal with storms?

Do you allow the storms of this life to make you doubt God? Or do you wait upon his salvation?

They took one look at the size of the storm and saw peril all around. They forgot, temporarily, that God is bigger than any storm they can face. Their boat was taking on water and the more they threw out more kept coming back in.

Jesus is the master of the storm and all he had to do was speak and the storm disappeared.

One of the hurricanes I experienced namely, Irma was so fierce I thought she would never end. It felt like the longest 6-7 hours of my life. This is exactly how we feel at times. We wonder when and if Jesus is going to show up.

God, I’m losing this fight and I need your help?

Jesus this storm is too strong; can’t you see that I’m perishing?

I’m sinking here, help me, help me!

You’re saying,

My marriage is crumbling; while God says, Have faith in me

My children are turning away from you and are in trouble; while God says, Have faith in me

My responsibilities are greater than my income; while God says, Have faith in me

It doesn’t matter the severity of the situation God wants us to have faith in his sovereign plan. Sometimes God has to get us to a point in our lives where we are failing or we have struck out so we can look to him. Every disappointment is a blessing. It’s a way for God to get what he really wants from us and that is to receive glory.

When the storm came out of nowhere God was receiving glory from the wind and wave.

Can he depend on you? Will you worship and give Him glory even while you’re facing hardship and going through your storm? Let us pray.

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father,

We humbly bow before our Creator, the maker of the universe; the creator of the wind and sea and we ask that you will help us to have full faith in you. I want to wait for your outcome and experience your full salvation. If the wind and wave can worship you and obey you then so will I. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Scripture for Today

Mark.4:35-41

Here is what you ought to do today, thank God for the storms that he has placed and will place in your life so that at the end you can come forth as mature and fit for the master’s use.
